Choosing a Marquee
Choosing a Melbourne Marquee
In our experience, it is a good idea that before you try to decide which type of marquee to hire, you first of all think very carefully in relation to the following: 1) The purpose of the event 2) The location or venue of the event 3) Your budget, and 4) The number of guests that you would like to accomodate.
1. Purpose of Event
The purpose of your event will have a large say in the size and type of marquee that is appropriate. By purpose, not just is it for a beer tent, a wedding, a party or a product launch etc, but think about the activities that you want to take place inside the marquee.
Will the visitors be sitting or standing ? If food is going to be provided, will it be a sit down meal or a buffet? Will people be dancing and if so will you have a DJ or a band ? Will staging or raised platforms be needed ? Will you be having a bar inside the marquee ? Would you like the marquee to be decorated (eg, for a wedding, themed party, or with corporate branding etc) ? If the marquee is being used for short-term storage space, how secure does it need to be ? Will you need a reception area ? Will you need a service tent ? Will you need to have seperate areas inside the marquee, eg. staff area or childrens area etc. ?
Clearly this list doesn’t cover everything, and the particulars will vary considerably depending on the type of event you are planning. Hopefully though, the questions raised will help to focus your thoughts about what you need from your Melbourne marquee hire.
2. Melbourne Venue
You may have not selected your actual Melbourne venue yet, but the site of your event will affect the type of marquee that will be the most appropriate. Will the marquee be indoors or outdoors ? On a hard surface or on a lawn ? Will the marquee be positioned on a flat surface, or will it go over a sloping surface (eg. a rockery), or an unusual one (eg. swimming pool or tennis court) ? Is it going to be on your own land, or will it be on somebody else’s, and will permission/approval be needed from other people who could be affected by the marquee ?
If you haven’t chosen a venue just yet, then we would be happy to talk about the pro’s and cons of ones you are looking at, make suggestions for other ones, or arrange a site visit as appropriate.
3. What is the Budget for your Event
Setting a budget at the start is absolutely vital for the majority of people, although some of our customers tend to be much more stringent with their specifications than the budget. We are willing to assist anyone get what they desire to the best of our ability, but it is helpful for us to know as quickly as possible what our guidelines and parameters are.
The more information we have the better, so don’t be afraid to ask us questions or seek advice on any aspect of your marquee hire. We want the best and most cost effective marquee for your event, and we’ll have to work closely together to achieve this.
4. How Many Guests?
An important issue in deciding the style and size of the marquee needed for your event is knowing how many guests the marquee needs to accomodate comfortably for the purpose of the event. There may well be some flexibility over the precise number of guests depending on what else you want to have inside the marquee, or the cost of various marquee choices. As a general rule, allow a minimum of 15 sq ft per person for a seated event, and 8 sq ft per person for a standing event.
Finally…
It cannot be emphasized enough the advantages of planning your event as early as possible. The best marquee venues can get booked months or several years ahead, and we don’t have an limitless amount of marquees ! The earlier you start to plan, the greater will be your choice in marquees and venues, so please for your own sake, make a decision to make that choice early. Marquee Hire Melbourne.
